Day #1: What’s Your Name?
My name is Elana. Pronounced E-lana. Most people get it wrong and I’ve been called all kinds of names – mostly Alana, Ilana, even Lonna – c’mon Starbucks, really?!
While my dad was serving in the Peace Corps they had a Spanish friend named Ilana, but after moving to Hawaii and learning they were expecting a baby girl, they wanted to change the spelling to a more Hawaiian-friendly pronunciation, and thus Elana was born…quite literally!
Growing up, I didn’t know anyone else with my name, until one day my mom brought home this and I thought it was the greatest thing ever – my own mint company!
