At the end of last year, on New Year’s Eve, our family spent some time discussing our favorite memories from the previous year and it inspired us to put together a Live List (a concept formed by Kelly Jensen, but one we’ve adopted because my husband thinks the term “Bucket List” is too morbid). Basically it’s a list of things do while we’re still in the area, and with less than 1 year left here, we wanted to do and see as much as we could. The kids have really enjoyed putting together the list (and crossing things off), and have actually kept us accountable, making sure we visit all of these places.
Here are some things we’ve either seen and done, or still want to explore in the Clarksville, TN area:
- Hike at Dunbar Caves
- Kayak down the Clarksville Blueway or the Red River
- Ride bikes at the Clarksville Greenway
- Pick fruit (blueberries, blackberries and apples) from Shade Tree Farm and Orchard
- Pick strawberries at McCraw’s Strawberry Ranch or H&S Farms
- Shoot zombies (for a good cause) during Halloween at Clarksville Zombie Hunters
- Golf at the Swan Lake Golf Course
- Visit the Jefferson Davis monument (a huge 351′ obelisk modeled after the Washington Monument, dedicated to Jefferson Davis who served as the one and only President of the Confederacy during the Civil War)
- Borrow books from the Clarksville-Montgomery Public Library (my kiddos love to read so we’re there on a weekly basis)
- Paint a canvas or ceramic piece at Horsefeathers Pottery Studio
- Take in a play at the Roxy Regional Theatre
- Browse Miss Lucille’s for one-of-a-kind treasures
- Enjoy Jazz on the Lawn at Beachaven Winery
- Pickup fresh fruits and veggies at Clarksville’s Downtown Market
- See the model trains at the Custom’s House Museum
- Practice our shooting at the Montgomery County Shooting Complex
- Eat at Liberty Park Grill, Blackhorse Brewery, The Looking Glass Restaurant & Bakery, Silke’s Old World Breads, Yellowtail Sushi, Mikado
And a little outside of the Clarksville area:
- See the amazing display of Christmas decorations and eat at Patti’s 1880 Settlement (be sure to try the flowerpot bread and strawberry butter…and maybe pick up some to take home)
- Stop in Todd County and get a treat from Schlabach’s Amish Bakery or drive a little further to the L&R Soda Bar
- Enjoy tea at Burdett’s Tea Shop
- Learn all about the different kids of dinosaurs at Dinosaur World (and maybe pretend you’re being chased by them a la Jurassic Park)
- Go for a horseback ride at Jesse James Riding Stables (and apparently they’ll still let you ride even if you’re littlest forgets her shoes at home and has to go barefoot…true story)
- Take a cave tour of Mammoth Cave
- Beat the heat at the Tiebreaker Family Aquatic Center
I hope that you’ll get a chance to visit some of these places too. And always remember…adventure is out there!
