Back when we were stationed at Fort Campbell, we frequented a quaint little restaurant called Patti’s 1880 Settlement that was famous for their flowerpot bread (basically bread baked in a terra cotta flower pot) and their divine strawberry butter. After strawberry picking this weekend, there were unanimous requests for this delectable combination.
BREAD-MACHINE BREAD
- 3/4 cup warm milk (warm in the microwave for 30-45 seconds)
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 3/4 cups flour
- 2 tablespoons salted butter, softened
- 2 teaspoons yeast
Add ingredients in order to bread machine pan (making sure the yeast does not touch any liquid) and set to “dough” setting. When the dough cycle is completed, place dough into a greased bread pan and allow to rise for another 30 minutes. Once bread has risen, preheat oven to 375 degrees and then bake for 25 minutes.
STRAWBERRY BUTTER
- 1/2 cup fresh strawberries, diced
- 2 sticks butter
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
In a large bowl, cream butter until whipped and smooth. Stir in powdered sugar. Fold in diced strawberries. Mix until butter is light pink and creamy. Store in refrigerator.
