This past Mother’s Day my kiddos each presented me with a coupon book, with various services I could redeem: taking out the trash, watering the plants, accompanying me on a walk, breakfast in bed and even a massage!
I couldn’t help but flashback to my childhood where I would create similar coupon books for my mom and give them to her on Mother’s Day and her birthday. Little did I know that she had put them aside, saving them for future use. One Christmas Eve, when I was home from college, visiting for the holidays, I noticed that she had placed a bunch of coupon books into her Christmas stocking, planning to redeem them years later. So I waited till everyone was asleep, took them out and carefully wrote expiration dates on the back, in the smallest print I could manage. The next morning we all got a good laugh when she pulled them out only to find that they had expired the day before!
Now if you’d like to do create something similar, you can find the printable we used HERE. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with printing them off yourself as an activity for your kiddos to do. Just be sure to check for expiration dates (if any) and use before they expire!
