I feel like 2018 has definitely been a fresh start for our family. Our most recent PCS (permanent change of station) has resulted in a new state, a new home, a new school, a new place of work (for Roland), a new place of worship, new friends…and so on and so on. And now that things have finally started to settle down and we’re creating schedules and rhythms, it’s allowed me some time to work on my beloved Powersheets and create some goals for 2018.
Now for those who know me it’s no surprise that I am a 3 on the Enneagram, which is the Achiever: success-oriented, pragmatic type: adaptive, excelling, driven and image-conscious. I like goals, and action steps, and crossing things off lists.
One of the things I’ve done for the past few years is find One Little Word to define my year. In 2017, we as a family chose the word was SHINE (based on Matthew 5:16), and I truly believe we did. But coming off of a very busy year and with all the changes going on, I felt like we had to slow things down a bit and the word SAVOR kept repeating in my head. Savor the time with family, especially my kiddos (who keep on growing whether I like it or not), savor my time with God, with friends, with hobbies, even with the mundane chores around the house that need to be done.
From there, with the help of Powersheets and the idea of living a Level 10 Life I choose 10 areas to focus on, and set a goal for each. Without further ado, I present my 2018 goals (and by putting them out here, now I’ve gotta be accountable to them, right?):
- Health: Renew my body.
- Finances: Create financial stability.
- Family: Be present.
- Spouse: Speak life into Roland with words and actions.
- Spiritual: Be in alignment with God’s will.
- Personal: Create space to do more things that bring me joy.
- Friends: Grow meaningful relationships.
- Recreation: Play hard and rest hard (balancing out work hard).
- Work: Streamline my business.
- Home: Simplify and become a cozy minimalist.
I’m currently working on breaking down each of these goals into individual action steps to be worked on throughout the year. One of the thing that has made all the difference in the world, is that a friend and I meet once a month for coffee, review our goals and share how we can keep each other accountable. I’m looking forward to a great year and SAVORING every minute to it!
